Description
The Bern cantonal police received a report at around 18:15 p.m. on Monday, 28 March 2022 that a man had not returned from a tour on the Mönch in the morning. An Air Glaciers team called out for a search flight was finally able to locate the speedflyer on the western Eiger Glacier. He could not be revived.
According to initial findings, the tourer had climbed to the Mönch alone in the morning, from where he took off with his green and white speedflying glider and ultimately crashed on the western Eiger Glacier for reasons that have yet to be clarified.
The Bern cantonal police are investigating the accident under the direction of the Oberland regional public prosecutor's office. Witnesses are being sought. Anyone who observed a speed flyer with a green and white glider in the Mönch/Eigergletscher area on that morning is asked to contact the police.
