Description
Conditions were perfect this morning. It was Cams first flight of the day, with his last logged flight being on Jan 19th. Three of us rode the Kubota to the drop-off spot at the 800' and hiked to the 1500'. Chatted on the hike up about life, everyone was in a good mood. Once at launch, I set up and went first. Shortly after, the second flyer launched and landed. Cam was the third to launch, at 9:35am. A few of us were watching his flight. He flew straight out from launch, then did one barrel roll to the left, came out on heading, and did a second to the right shortly after. He then spent a second correcting his heading and aiming himself towards a gully, at this point losing the energy he had built up in his wing. He then did a 3rd barrel roll to the left, which was too slow for the altitude he had, causing him to impact one second after coming out of the barrel roll. He was found on the side of the gully, 200' below the old 800' launch. We were able to get to him approximately 15 min later. It appeared he died on impact, but regardless, life-saving measures were attempted until paramedics arrived.
